Third Week of #ASUNMGolf Finishes on High Note

2022-23 ASUN Men's Golf Schedule

ATLANTA – ASUN Conference Men's Golf squads got back on the course for week three of action as it took place at The Grove Page Classic (Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama) and the River Run Collegiate (Queens).

It was a fantastic two days on the course for North Alabama as Carter Goodwin took the individual medalists honors and helped the team finish first at The Grove Page Classic. The Lions finished 21-under-par with an 843 three-round total. Bellarmine was a distant second at 8-under. The win was also the first for the Lions under new Head Coach Luke Calcatera in just his second tournament at the school. BU set a school-record low round and clutch runner-up performance to North Alabama. The Knights' new school record was a team effort as four of the five players broke par in the round. Leading the way was freshman Luke Bischoff with a 68 – the best score of his young collegiate career. Ballard Harris carded a 70 in round two while Jensen Klondike and Kannon Tucker chipped in with 71s. Klondike was Bellarmine's top finisher, turning in three under-par rounds (70-71-68) to finish solo fourth in the 96-player field. Harris notched a tie for 13th finish with rounds of 72-70-72, and Bischoff tied for 20th after rounds of 74-68-75.

Justin Begley highlighted EKU'S (T35) finish, who shot a three-round score of 73-75-72 for a total of 220. The Manchester, Ky., native has finished top-40 in all three tournaments the team has played so far, including a tie for 15th placement at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invite. Austin Peay finished 12th overall with a score of 892. The Governors finished one shot ahead of 13th-place Southeastern Louisiana and bested 14th-place EKU by 14 strokes while finishing just two shots behind 11th-place Nicholls State. Central Arkansas ended the two-day Grove Page Classic with a 10th-place finish. Senior Sam Long played himself up a spot with his final 18 holes, logging a 2-over 74 to move up into 43rd. Dominic Barron Holden, playing as an individual in this event, also placed 43rd after a 3-over 75 in his last round of golf.

Queens secured its first Division I top 10 finish at the River Run Collegiate. The Royals carded a plus-23 887 (299-294-294) to tie with Gardner-Webb after three rounds of play. The host Wildcats took the title after shooting a three-over 867 (299-291-277) while East Carolina finished second with an 870 (296-283-291).

ASUN teams head back to the course on Monday as a number of tournaments get underway, including the JT Poston Invitational (BU, Kennesaw State), Old Town Invitational (FGCU), Graeme McDowell Invitational (Jacksonville, Lipscomb and UNA), Folds of Honor Collegiate (Liberty) and Windon Memorial Classic (North Florida).
