Top 10 Finishes Highlight Tournament Play for #ASUNWGolf

ATLANTA – ASUN Conference Women's Golf squads got back on the course at the Nittany Lion Invitational (Kennesaw State, Eastern Kentucky), Badger Invite (North Florida), Elon Invitational (Queens) and Hoover Invitational (Jacksonville, North Alabama).

Kennesaw State and Eastern Kentucky met at the Nittany Lion Invitational in Pennsylvania. KSU took home a second-place finish as the Owls posted a 13-over 887 score to finish the weekend, placing one stroke ahead of Boston College. The team was led by Meva Schmit with a score of 2-over 218 overall across three rounds. She finished tied for seventh, marking the best finish of her KSU career. EKU finished eigth overall as the Colonels turned in rounds of 300, 297, 307 for a total of 904 over the two-day event. EKU finished five strokes behind seventh place Butler and one stroke above ninth-place Navy. The Colonels were led by Elisa Orduna Shackleton, and the Zaragoza, Spain native finished tied for 25th with a three-round score of 224 (75-78-71).

North Florida ended the Badger Invite with a tie for fourth-place finish with Wisconsin and Washington State. Both Wyndom Burnett and Christin Eisenbeiss placed inside the top 10 as they both shot even-par 72 during the third and final round of play to secure their top-10 spots on the player leaderboard. Additionally, Queens completed their first NCAA Division I event with a top 10 finish. Emelia Pack led the Royals in the final two rounds of play to finish in the top 30. Last weekend's tournament also marked Ashley Fowler's debut as head coach.

The Hoover Invitational brought top 10 finishes for Jacksonville and North Alabama. JAX concluded its first event of the 2022-23 season with a sixth-place finish. Ashley Huffman found a nice rhythm, making par on six of seven holes at one point in her first nine of the day. She followed that up with par on all but one hole to close out her round with a tie for 16th finish. Casey Powell shot even-par on Par 3s, tying the best score in the field on such holes. Ashley Huffman was JU's best scorer on Par 4s and Par 5s, shooting even-par on the latter. Susana Olivares had a team-high 34 pars, while Huffman and Powell both made seven birdies total. UNA finished in seventh place right behind Jacksonville as the Lions were tied for second after the opening round but slipped to seventh by the end of the first day of play. A final round 309 gave UNA a 53-over-par, 917 total. Allycia Gan tied for 31st (232), Jahnavi Prakhya tied for 37th (233), Hannah Dees tied for 39th (234) and Hannah Pope was 53rd (240).

Squads will be out on the course once again on Friday as Stetson, North Florida, and FGCU compete in the Lady Paladina Invitational. Central Arkansas starts play on Monday at Golfweek Conference Challenge while Kennesaw State will take part in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. Queens will start competition on Monday in the UNC-Greensboro Fall event. The F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate will host Bellarmine, Jacksonville State, North Alabama and host Austin Peay.
