2022 @ASUNVolleyball Season Preview: Kennesaw State Owls

Kennesaw State Schedule | Kennesaw State 2021 Season Stats

ATLANTA – With the 2022 ASUN Conference Volleyball season approaching, we preview each of the 14 conference squads in preparation for the 38th season of ASUN Volleyball. Kennesaw State was selected to finish third in the Preseason Coaches Poll after the Owls made a run to the ASUN Championship Semifinals a year ago.

KSU was able to hit the 20-plus win plateau last season and went through the league schedule at a 13-3 clip en route to being one game away from the conference final in 2021. The team claimed a 12-match win streak during conference play and has won 20-plus matchups in four consecutive seasons (not including the COVID-shortened year). The Owls earned the third-most points from the coaches in the rating (157) and senior right side Emma Schurfranz was selected to the ASUN Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team. A two-time ASUN All-Conference selection, including a First Team nod in 2021, Schurfranz led the squad a year ago in total kills with 363 (fifth in ASUN) and ranked fourth in the conference with 3.39 scores per set. Her .283 hitting percentage was ranked ninth among league leaders last season.

Western Carolina is on the docket to begin the year on Aug. 26 in the opening contest of the Wake Forest Invitational for the Owls. They also take on NC Central and the Demon Deacons the very next day. Action inside the KSU Convocation Center first gets underway on Sept. 1 against Furman in the home opener of a three-match homestand. Additional highlights during the non-conference include matchups against Mississippi State, Houston and UAB before North Alabama and Central Arkansas come to Georgia for ASUN play on Sept. 23 and 24, respectively. The team then hits the road for three-straight league battles against Liberty (Sept. 30), Queens (Oct. 1) and Jacksonville State (Oct. 7) to get the ASUN slate rolling.
