JSU & Queens Collide at the Queen City Invite to Highlight Women's #ASUNXC Week Four Action

2022 ASUN Conference Women's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA - Jacksonville State and Queens return to action highlighting week four of ASUN Conference Women's Cross Country. Both squads are set to compete on Friday at the Queen City Invite, hosted by the Royals. 

Three squads were recognized in the latest USTFCCA Regional Rankings with Lipscomb and Kennesaw State coming in at seventh and 11th, respectively, in the South Region. Liberty had the highest ranking of any ASUN squad coming in at fifth in the Southeast Region.

- At the North Alabama Showcase, Austin Peay's Savannah Fruth finished first for the Govs marking the second-straight meet this season that she has led her team 
- The Govs have two more meets left on the 2022 slate with their next coming Oct. 7 at the Brescia Invitational in Owensboro, Ky. 

Next Race:
 Live in Louisville Classic (10/1; Louisville, Ky.) 
- Bellarmine placed 18th out of 39 teams at the North Alabama Showcase while finishing ahead of three other league schools at the event 
- Anna Wells marked her name in the BU record books at the team's last outing as she recorded the 36th-best 5K time in program history clocking an 18:22.51

Central Arkansas
Next Race:
 at Arkansas Chili Pepper Festival (9/30; Fayetteville, Ark.)
- For the first time in UCA program history, the duo of Sara Steimel and Sequoya Prentice claimed the ASUN Conference weekly awards on Sept. 14 following their performance at the UCA XC Challenge
- Steimel has been UCA's top performer in both of their meets this season after she placed second overall in the squad's last meet at the UCA XC Challenge

Eastern Kentucky
Next Race:
at Joe Piane Invite (9/30; South Bend, Ind.)
- EKU placed eighth overall in the 39-team field in its last outing at the North Alabama Showcase; the squad defeated teams including Central Florida, Georgia and Memphis at the event
- Jone Zabaleta-Larranaga made her way into the record books becoming the first individual to collect the ASUN Runner of the Week honor in Eastern Kentucky program history

Next Race: 
at FSU Invitational (10/7; Tallahassee, Fla.)
- Karley Piers guided the Eagles for the second time this season as she placed 58th overall at the North Alabama Showcase with her 5K time of 18:05.53
- The Eagles are set to finish their season with two meets in the state of Florida beginning with the FSU Invitational on Oct. 7 in Tallahassee

Next Race:
 at FSU Invitational (10/7; Tallahassee, Fla.)
- Hayleigh Plaotti recorded her second first-place showing of the season in JAX's last outing at the North Florida Invitational where the Dolphins placed third overall out of eight teams
- Jacksonville returns to compete at Florida State on Oct. 7 marking the second-straight season the Dolphins have competed at the event; Palotti placed 13th overall in the 6K event at FSU last season 

Jacksonville State
Next Race:
 at Queen City Invite (9/23; Charlotte, N.C.)
- Elsa Chan led the way for Jacksonville State at the North Alabama Showcase last weekend as she crossed the finish line with a 5K time of 18:34.89
- The Gamecocks will join fellow ASUN member Queens this weekend by competing at the Queen City Invite in Charlotte for the squad's second-to-last meet of the regular season

Kennesaw State
Next Race: 
vs. Live in Louisville Classic (10/1; Louisville, Ky.) 
- At the North Alabama Showcase, KSU's Caroline Timm was one of two league individuals to finish inside the top 15 with her 12th-place finish and 5K time of 17:00.99
- The Owls had the highest team finish of all ASUN squads at the North Alabama Showcase as they placed fifth in the field of 39 teams 

Next Race:
 at Joe Piane Invite (9/30; South Bend, Ind.)
- All-American Calli Doan won her second-consecutive meet for the Flames last weekend after taking first in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational with her 6K time of 20:59.1
- Kayla Werner claimed her first ASUN Freshman of the Week honor this past week following her second-place showing last Friday

Next Race:
 at Gans Creek Classic (9/30; Columbia, Mo.)
- Lydia Miller guided the Bisons to a first-place team finish with her second-place individual showing at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Memorial Invitational 
- The Bisons take a week off before returning to action on Sept. 30 at the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by Missouri 

North Alabama
Next Race:
 at Live in Louisville Classic (10/1; Louisville, Ky.) 
- For the third-straight meet, Beth Ann Tucker was the top performer for the Lions as she crossed the finish line with a 5K time of 18:10.16 to place 65th overall at the North Alabama Showcase
- As a team, the Lions placed 17th in the 39-team field at the North Alabama Showcase finishing ahead of squads including Bellarmine, FGCU, South Florida and South Alabama

North Florida
Next Race:
 Gans Creek Classic (9/30; Columbia, Mo.)
- The Ospreys had a strong start to their 2022 season with a first-place team showing at the North Florida Invitational; the squad finished first in the field of eight teams
- North Florida is set to return to the course on Sept. 30 to compete in its second-to-last meet of the regular season, the Gans Creek Classic, where it will be joined by Lipscomb

Next Race:
 vs. Queen City Invite (9/23; Charlotte, N.C.)
- At the North Alabama Showcase, Queens finished 12th in the 39-team field as Letizia Martinelli was the league's third-best performer at the event with her 5K time of 17:19.64
- The Royals finish out the season with back-to-back home meets: Queen City Invite this Friday followed by the Royals Challenge Oct. 7

Next Race:
at Lehigh (9/30; Bethlehem, Pa.)
- Stetson took home a second-place team showing in its last outing at the North Florida Invitational, where the squad was led by Cheyenne Durda who set a new 5K personal record time of 18:12.8 
- The Hatters will take the next week off from the action before returning to the course on Sept. 30 in Bethlehem, Pa., to compete at Lehigh
